I have been concerned about my friend Geron for some time. In the summer of 2025 he told a small group of friends that he was suffering from blood cancer, with a sudden and painful onset. With excellent care, and, as he said, the very best US medical insurance money could buy, he received highly targeted gene therapy, which was effective such that his therapy intervals were reduced from Christmas 2025 onwards, and real cheerfulness and real optimism replaced the very necessary positive mental attitude he had adopted since diagnosis.

You will also recognise the gap in dates in Charlie Boone between chapters 9 and 10 of Life Is Like A New Suit of Clothes, Charlie Boone! from July 23rd to December 22nd where he found that concentrating on living and also preserving his day to day business was taking all his reserves. He was sad that he didn't have the strength to finish that tale in July, but kept his promise to himself and finished it in December. He was starting to feel substantially improved.

Major encouragements came. Weather permitting, he was able to take outdoor exercise, but by no means at the level he was used to. Drugs were reduced further and clinic visits reduced in frequency.

In March, he was suddenly admitted to hospital with pneumonia, kept in for a week or so, and discharged home to his loved ones with oxygen support.

"Pneumonia," he said, "is the evil thing that most cancer patients die from. Our immune system is compromised, and the infection is opportunistic." He spoke of struggling to walk from room to room without oxygen support.

On March 26th, 2026 Geron said in a group email that he would do his best each evening to tell us he had made it through the day.

That was his final email to anyone, as far as I know.

We followed the breadcrumb trail he had left us. He insisted on privacy, and he achieved it. Despite our best endeavours, and short of visiting the area he told us he lived and finding out it wasn't there at all anyway, we have been unable to find any more about him than you know from his stories. His privacy shield might have been more fragile prior to data privacy laws, but I doubt it could have been broken even then. Until one of his real life folk is willing and able to access his private email accounts and follow them to one of his online friends all we can assume is that our friend has not survived, and probably died that evening or in the very few days thereafter.

I choose not to miss him, not to grieve. I kind of picture him in one of the universes he created, but I think he was most comfortable in Rules of the Road, but not necessarily in the second series, and most autobiographical in A Charmed Life.

I'm still around - and while I have 5 chapters of CSV-DSM written, I've been having to go back and make a few adjustments in them (Mainly names). Once I'm sure I've got those fixed, I will start posting them. I've had to do a lot of research for this story arc, so it is taking longer to make sure it's not only realistic, but still fits within story canon of the CSU in general.

When you see what the little rats got into this time, you'll understand just what I have went through!

I apologize for the lack of updates from me, I have been trying to find the right headspace. The good news is that I finally found it..., however, when I attempted to start posting chapters my Mac Studio decided to start acting up. Hard drives began disappearing and my Studio started restarting multiple times in a row, making doing anything impossible. 

I believe the issue is one of the drive bays that hold the main data drive for my Studio. I will replace that bay as soon as I can. However, I have to scrape up the funds first. If any of you can help just a little please click on the Donation Button.

While searching for another story I found out that when we transferred all the files from my old site somehow we missed on of Sequoyah Pendors. That story is Mountain Magic, I have begun posting it and will attempt to post a few chapters daily until it is completely posted.

That is the good news, now for the not so good news, I haven't heard from Sequoyah in quite a few years and the last that I heard from him was that he was very ill. No one else that I know of, has heard from him in the same time period. His stories are being moved to the Authors emeritus Group from the Active Authors Group.

So, while getting finished "day 1" of my latest payroll run over this past weekend, I learned that a voice that has always had the ability to take me back to a memorable time in my life has been forever silenced. F'ing cancer took another. Brad Arnold, the band's lead singer, lost his battle with kidney cancer at only 47 years old. Rest in peace Brad. For an entire generation and beyond, you will forever be called Superman.

My name is Edward Kyle Stokes or EKS, I'm a new author on this site and am currently posting my book The King's Boy - a medieval tale. Check it out if you enjoy a little drama and romance with a group of young adventurers. Here is what one reader thought of it: 

A truly interesting spin on an old story.

The characters were exceptionally well done, and the writing was good, the pacing proved a little uneven a few times, usually during transition chapters.

A few rough patches for more than one character, be prepared for some unpleasant actions a few times, of course, it would have been a sign of the times the story takes place in and the fact war was going on in a few of the areas the protagonist travelled through.

More than worth the time to stop and enjoy this story, and we can hope there is a sequel percolating in the authors thoughts...

(Yep, unashamed plug, only excuse, I need your encouragement and feedback, do you think it's good or rubbish? Let me know)

I've got a whole host of stories, short and longer, I've been looking for a good place to upload them to and this feels like it, thanks to Bill aka the story lover. I have been writing for a few years now, but I only recently decided to try putting my stuff online. I've had some help from fellow authors and some great comments and feedback, but I've also had some mammoth rejections by webmasters who said what I wrote was rubbish and needed to be completely rewritten... wow! That knocked me back, but hey, I'm still here, still doing my best. We all gotta begin somewhere, don't we?

I know, it's been a really long time since I've had to crack the seal on the archive but that can be the magic of October sometimes. If anything is going to be found in the shadows, it is often near Halloween...and this is a good one too!

I just dedicated a space in the archive for a brand new author named "Hikaru" and his scripture: "Eternal Echoes: The Story of Aelios and Adrian", which focuses on the current happenings of one of the oldest vampires I have read about in a long time. Not only does this scripture shine a little light on some long sought after history, but it also gives us a glimpse of what that journey looked like for one turned so young. I personally can't wait to see just what drives this one and what has given him the strength to continue on when many others would have gone on that final walk into the sunrise.

In case you didn't know, Massachusetts humidity levels are much higher than Northeast Oregon!

I seem to have fallen behind in my site work; however, there is a fairly good reason for this. I have been very busy writing two semi-autobiographical intertwined stories. This is much harder than I expected, and that may be because of some characters appearing in both stories, but slightly different.  Trying to write about something in my past without getting bogged down with details is stressful and is stretching my brain much further than I thought it would. I will not be posting either of these stories until they are completed. Wish me luck.

Twenty years ago, I began writing. My first story was Apple of Her Eye. Little did I know that when I posted that first chapter online, it would be the beginning of a wonderful journey. The Mustard Jar has been visited by tens of thousands of readers from all over the world. Many of you have become lifelong friends. I have completed 27 full-length stories and several short stories. As you have noticed, I have slowed down.  However, I\'m not yet at the end of the journey. I am waiting for my muse to strike again. I have been trying very hard the last couple of months not to read or watch the news. My reasons are simple: the news absolutely pisses me off and makes me ashamed to be a citizen of the US. However, I do read the news occasionally, so that I don't become an Ostrich sticking my head in the sand.

Today's News caused my already pissed off and overly worked-up brain to nearly explode. In order to fend off the impending explosion, I wrote a Political Rant titled The New Colossus. It is a different take on the poem by Ema Lasarus. Emma's Poem is on the base of The Statue of Liberty, especially the following quote: "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."

As the Statue of Liberty and Emma's poem stand against everything our current government stands against, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see the Island and Statue closed to the public for the foreseeable future!

How soon we forget that we are a nation of Immigrants and the vast majority of us our foreigners living on the land of the rightful inhabitants.  The lands that we call the United States of America, belong to the Earth, and its keepers and protectors, the Great Spirit and the First Nations People, and the Indigenous People that were already here when the first Vikings and European Settlers/Invaders landed! Were are literally strangers on this continent.

Yes, I'm still around, and am making changes to real life to get more time!

There’s an old adage that states, “It’s too late to close the barn door after the horses have gotten out.” Sixteen-year-old Neil Michaels learns this lesson on a summer afternoon when he joins his best friend on a biking adventure to the old barn on Engle Mill Road. No this isn't a question requiring input for IMAGINE Magazine (Thanks every one of you for those though!) It's poking a stick in the bush to see what comes out. LOL!

So, we have 9 issues under our belt with actual content since restarting. I was really worried that they were going to get really stale without Comsie really fast but, people have been giving feedback and it is both depressing and gratifying at the same time. Sure we are missing the heart and soul of what IMAGINE used to be but we've been able to to take the magic he gave us and use it as a reserve to keep creating content. I made the decision to keep doing a reflection article to previous issues every month and added one that was intentionally only Comsie's voice. It's been a lot of work but, for so many, it was worth the effort.

On my end, it's been getting a little easier but, it's been so difficult. Not so much in the creation of articles but in attempting to create something that he'd enjoy. That has always been my 'litmus test'. Anytime I created something new or tossed a "Story Brat" story at him, I'd be excited to see what he thought. Now it's still what I aim for knowing the feedback isn't going to come from him. That is what has been the hardest thing to deal with in all of this. I thought that part would eventually get easier but, every single issue reopens that wound just enough to make it hurt all over again. But with TurtleBoy, MykeD., The Story Lover, Night Auditor, MrM, ACFan, The EggMan, R. Eric, Justin, Jules Porter, and every single one of you interacting in the GA, the Shack forums, and on Discord, the hurt of missing someone I have considered a brother for decades now is followed with a smile knowing that he would be so overjoyed that we loved him and his work so much that we are willing to keep it going. His sites and stories are safe for as long as we can safe guard them. So why post now?

Because we need voices. We need more of the people who loved him and his work to add a little of what they see in their online community to the living tribute that he built for us and we keep up for him. Right now, I must look like some kind of psychopath who loves to torture himself when the reality of it is, I simply don't want to let it go. I always loved being the guy behind the curtain for him and now that he has left and taken the curtain with him, I want more of his family to feel welcomed to be involved. I do need help and want to ask you all for it. (...help with... um... I meant with the magazine, stop laughing! LOL!)

Want to do a review of a special story or stories, maybe even review one from the Comet himself? There are so many unique ways that everyone could be involved, probably in ways we haven't even thought of yet. So I want to at least once invite the GA Community, Fort Family Community, and members of Comicality's Shack Outback a spot to show off a little Shack love :) I'll continue to put the work in but just like any other community, a dancing monkey eventually gets old and can't dance anymore. Normally not without his dance becoming something that becomes dull to watch for too long. I get sick of listening to "Me" why wouldn't you? LOL!

To protect IMAGINE Magazine for Comicality and those who still need it, I want to ask for the help of the people who loved and appreciated the man and all he did for us. Yes, I'm serious - there is actually a new chapter!

I just posted CSV-DSM Part 2, Chapter 16: Unintended Rewards for your reading pleasure. As you can probably guess by the title, this one has taken a few twists and turns. The chapter happens after the DSM boys get back home from the party in Orlando, and gives some insight into just how they have been affected by recent world events. I think that you'll be pleasantly surprised at who steps up to become the key player in the events of this chapter; I sure was! There are things that happen here that will need to be expanded on in the next chapter, but this one was getting to the point that it needed to be posted.

For those of you wondering, Brotherhood of Love is pending real life allowing The Eggman to be able to sit down and finish his part of the next chapter without something else completely derailing any thoughts of the storyline. Both of us have been getting sidetracked by real life issues; I just happened to sneak this one in when life wasn't looking!

So no one is shocked to see new stuff popping up on our Shack mirror site, I am going through all of Comsie's posted work and looking for any that he posted that may have slipped past me. So far I found one chapter and a short story that was written for GA that was a sequal to another that I had already carried over. He could be so hard to keep up with sometimes so there may be a couple more, who knows.

I also adjusted the site's overall title. It has always just said "Shack Outback" which was always cool when the boss was around to give his seal of approval. With him no longer being a voice in my ear while I work on it, I sort of wanted something to remind me who really owns the site, so I also mirrored the name of the original. "Comicality's Shack Outback" (It's not overly noticable but it is a little different from the original site.The original is posted as "Out Back" where the mirror is "Outback". That and the original is simply a directory to his work hosted on the Gay Author's forum. The mirror site was built as his archive of all of his work all standing alone. So, it wasnn't needed but I wanted his name up there where it belongs even if it's just a comfort to me.

So, if you hit shackoutback.net for your Comicality fix or just want to revisit an old friend, take a look at the most recent stuff because there are some that are new to the site now. (I'll give the boss a hard time for slipping them past me someday, LOL!)

That man was Comicality; and those of us that he extended his guidance to are still reeling from the loss. He was the ear that would listen when your past came back to haunt you, he was the first one to lend support when an author thought they were not good enough, he never stood down in the face of attempted oppression when he knew it was wrong. Most of all, he was a friend who would stand by your side.

If it wasn't for him, you would not be able to read this today, as I would have never published the story that became the CSU; I would have never took the chance at joining what became the Fort Family, and I probably would still not accept myself for the real me. I'm not alone; far from it... he had that effect on anyone he made contact with. It still doesn't seem real, and even after a week I still am at a loss as to expressing just how much he's affected my life.

If you've read his story "Gone from Daylight", you'll understand the meaning of the next line...

It is with a sad heart that I write this News Post, True's Fandom was the first of the Fort Family of Sites to have the honour of hosting works by Comicality. Unfortunately, I have the sad task of informing you the readers of this site that Comicality passed away in the comfort of his family on Tuesday, April 16th, 2024. Comsie will be remembered forever for the unique and creative person that he was. Comsie was an inspirational person and was the reason that a lot of us started writing and are still writing.

Comsie will be sorely missed!

I want to thank TrueFan posthumously for getting Comsie's permission to host his stories on a Fort Family Site, that was and is an amazing honour.

I first became acquainted with Comicality's writing in the late 1990s with New Kid In School, his writing eventually led me to Memories by ACFan, and helped inspire me to write. I communicated with Comicality through emails, forums and even IRC. I was amazed by the creativity that he possessed and his willingness to share that creativity with anyone that asked or needed it. He was a great resource for upcoming writers of any age. He was a very unique person and one that will never be forgotten. Comicality look down upon us and continue to share your light and creativity with us.

I was amazed and deeply honoured that he allowed me to Co-Host his story The Plateau on my site. Comicality was very picky on which sites could host his stories and my site is one of those few. An honour that I will never forget.

Comicality affected many more lives with his creativity and joy of life than he ever knew. He will be sorely missed.

We are going to have a discussion in the office and figure out what we can/should do to keep all of the projects we've worked on with him alive like this site. Almost 6 years ago I got to see firsthand how much work he put into everything he did to entertain us all when we aided in reviving his IMAGINE Magazine. His persistence and level of dedication re-lit that flame for myself and even though the magazine was supposed to simply be hosted by us, I’ve had my hand on the wheel and followed along as he pointed. It’s hard to imagine moving forward without him, but we do want to move forward for him. Myself and the entire team (real and 3D) are all brokenhearted and need our vision to clear so we can do his work justice.

Yes, I'm still alive! Believe it or not, The Eggman and myself do have a chapter in the works; unfortunately my current medical issues and some real-life issues on his part have slowed things down considerably. While things are moving forward, I value your patience as we navigate these rough times. Good news is that by the end of this year, it looks like my medical issues will be under control!

Now, on to another topic, one that I hope you enjoy. One of the core things that has been part of the CSU since the beginning has been music. Jeffsfort was poking around one day recently, and he found something that he thought I'd be interested in. I did a little poking around, found that not only was it valid, but there was an amazing backstory, and I now want to share it with you!

Back in the day, Don Goldberg was friends with Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, and penned two songs with him which are now available on the "Lost Tracks" collection that was recently published. Don formed the tribute band "Surf's Up" with his sons Donny and Danny, along with his cousin Denny Hardwick. Moving on a few years, Donny gets married, and they have two sons. The oldest, Landon, starts playing drums at the tender age of one - and there is video proof of it! (Dad says he thinks Mom being at the concerts while pregnant taught Landon how to keep a beat before he was born) A year later, Lyric was born ... and by some stroke of luck, both boys were gifted with 'perfect pitch'.

Now on to today... Just like how his Dad let him get involve in music, Donny and his wife has supported both of their son's interest. That has led to the current topic, the band "Raized Wrong". Thirteen-year-old Landon is on drums and vocals, twelve-year-old Lyric is on keyboards, vocals, occasional guitar, and usually draws attention due to his antics. Dad does guitar and some vocals, but lets the boys take the lead. The best part is that the boys do all of the background work, programming Mainstage so that Lyric can use the keyboards to fill in instruments they don't have, breaking down songs so that they know what they need to play, etc. They recently put out an album on most of the streaming services called "Gen Z does Gen X", covering multiple 80's songs (with approval from the original artists, at least one done in-person).

Raized Wrong has a page on Patroen, and multiple Social Media pages. Video and special announcements can be found there. For Patroen, just search for "Raized Wrong". the other one I watch is on Facebook, which is "Raized Wrong Productions" and "Raized Wrong Momma" -- be careful on Facebook, as there are intellectual property thieves posing as them on some other pages, the two I just listed are confirmed as the real thing.

For those of you wondering whether is is St. Paddy's Day or St. Patty's Day they are both correct. St. Patrick is the anglicized version of his Roman/Latin name Patricius. His Irish name is Pádraig. So you see borth of the nicknames are correct. Now as to Saint Patrick or Saint Saint Pádraig's Day. 

Contrary to popular belief Saint Pádraig did not chase the snakes out of Ireland, the reason for this is there were no snakes in Ireland at the time other than the two legged kind and those are everywhere. St. Padraig was a real person born sometime in the fifth century. There is plenty of documentation regarding his life, just no real carved in stone timeline.

The dates of Patrick's life cannot be fixed with certainty, but there is general agreement that he was active as a missionary in Ireland during the fifth century. A recent biography^[5] on Patrick shows a late fourth-century date for the saint is not impossible.^[6] According to tradition dating from the early Middle Ages, Patrick was the first bishop of Armagh and Primate of Ireland, and is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland, converting a pagan society in the process. He has been generally so regarded ever since, despite evidence of some earlier Christian presence.^[7]

According to Patrick's autobiographical Confessio, when he was about sixteen, he was captured by Irish pirates from his home in Britain and taken as a slave to Ireland. He writes that he lived there for six years as an animal herder before escaping and returning to his family. After becoming a cleric, he returned to spread Christianity in northern and western Ireland. In later life, he served as a bishop, but little is known about where he worked. By the seventh century, he had already come to be revered as the patron saint of Ireland.

So I have just posted the first chapters of two new stories which I hope will bring you all some pleasure as you read them.  I will let you know now that one of them, Hurricane Temple is already complete (I think, but what do I know, I'm just the writer), therefore there will only be a few chapters of it.  It's a short story, but it's long enough page wise to break into chapters, so that's what I did.  I'm only long winded when I'm talking to you in person.   It's a Southern US thing.  It's a curse, really, but I'm rambling again.  Go read Hurricane Temple and Living in a Small Town, and I hope you chuckle where I laughed and feel something where I cried, because I'm a mushy old Cajun geezer when I write.

It is that dastardly time of year again when we lose an hour of sleep by springing forward. Yes, Folks Daylight Saving Time is here, as unnatural, unhealthy, and dangerous as it is! 

According to the AASM, it's standard time that more closely matches our body's internal clock.

"The daily cycle of natural light and darkness is the most powerful timing cue to synchronize our body’s internal clock," the Illinois-based organization says. "When we receive more light in the morning and darkness in the evening, our bodies and nature are better aligned, making it easier to wake up for our daily activities and easier to fall asleep at night. Daylight saving time disrupts our internal clock, leading to sleep loss and poor sleep quality, which in turn lead to negative health consequences."

"For morning commuters and children heading off to school, dark mornings caused by permanent daylight saving time pose numerous safety concerns," the AASM says. "This would be especially problematic during the winter months when days grow increasingly shorter."

And while for some, turning the clocks back a full hour means 60 extra minutes of rest, sleep experts at the American Academy of Sleep Medicine say seasonal time changes disrupt our health and safety.

So which is better for us? Here's a look at what some experts had to say, along with a breakdown on how daylight saving time currently works:

Which is Better? Here's What Sleep Experts Say

While the legislation on the table is currently to make daylight saving time permanent, the AASM says it's permanent standard time that should be adopted instead, with one reason being to ensure safety for morning commutes.

“Daylight saving time disrupts the body’s natural circadian rhythms and impacts sleep,” said AASM President Jennifer Martin, a licensed clinical psychologist, in a press release. “Standard time provides a better opportunity to get the right duration of high-quality, restful sleep on a regular basis, which improves our cognition, mood, cardiovascular health, and overall well-being.”

Sleep experts also argue that permanent daylight saving time would "disproportionately" affect people living in the northern part of the U.S.

"Some parts of Montana, North Dakota and Michigan would not see sunrise until after 9:30 a.m. during the winter months," the AASM said, if the country adopted permanent daylight saving time.

A real quick note to update you on our neighboring community "Awesome Dude" which many of our sites are linked to. As we all know, they recently suffered the untimely passing of their founder and leader. Despite 2023 ending with a hard drive crash that took out all my writing projects, I managed to slip in another chapter of Brotherhood of Love for you! Chapter 14 is hot off the presses, and it goes places that we've never gone before.

As anyone who has been following Clan Short knows, there is something in the water at the Pacific Rim base that causes the most unexpected situations to arise. Today, we've been hit with two of them - and we get to watch as the boys deal with it in their natural unconventional way.

No Mikyvis were harmed in the production of this chapter, but there is a distinct possibility that a couple of Patriarchs might need to invest in scuba gear!

Seriously, a new chapter of Mikyvis Chron. Vacation has went live ... and things are just getting started! While actual Mikyvis sightings are rare in this one, the casts of CSV-DSM and CSPRD make up for it! You'll get to see a little more about how some of the families bonded, and friendships developed.

Somehow this chapter had slipped through without getting published earlier; fortunately TheEggman found it, and after both of us made sure it was actually complete, he posted it while I was busy with other real-life things. We're trying to find Kyle now so we can tickle him for forgetting to remind us!

ACFan submitted his migraine-inducing story called TaDaoaSMiSwtbInkIhtIfotPD-AC. The name alone gave Santa a headache. Why the extremely long title, twice as long as TSL's longest title? ACFan decided to write a Short Story that tackled all of the event's themes, and somehow he succeeded. It is worth a read.

TSL submitted another one of his alcohol-infused submissions that again featured Wild Turkey prominently. Yes, both versions of Wild Turkey. TSL swears that no Wild Turkeys were harmed during the creation of his Short Story. Oh, you want to know the title hang on a sec while I consult the Library of Congress. This may or may not be the news that you want to hear, however, it is what it is. Or as would say, "Que Sera, Sera!"  I was doing some plotting/planning the other night, actually around 2:30 A.M. of Chapter Twelve when I realized that I had screwed up royally. I was introducing things into that chapter that either hadn't happened yet, hadn't been built yet, or... Well, hopefully, you get the point.  So, for now, Chapter Twelve has been renamed Chapter Fourteen and has been put on the back burner.

I am now working on Chapters Twelve and Thirteen subtitled Project Obfusco. If you would like to get an idea of what those chapters will be covering, then I suggest that you go back and re-read Chapter Eleven. These chapters will add a lot of backstory, construction, and detail that is necessary for Chapter Fourteen and beyond. 

I apologize for even another delay, however, this isn't my fault it is all Alexander's fault. Okay, Chris and Jane share some of the blame as well.

Just an update for those of you wondering about the future of the CSU.

We have NOT given up on it! Real life jobs going crazy, on top of a few of us suffering from medical issues that have had us in and out of medical care, has limited our time to write considerably. Personally, I just had circulatory issues in my leg save my life, as when I went into the ER they found that a viral infection had caused major fluid buildup around my heart - a VERY bad thing to find! I'm recovering, and they are pretty sure that I'm out of danger, but that still is affecting my stamina and how long I can sit in one place.

I have been doing my annual review of my own writings - the best way I've found to not only keep the characters fresh in my head, but to also watch for things that their later actions might cause to happen. The storyline for Brotherhood of Love is an example of that, as DJ and Tanner grew into the positions that they now hold, and they have started passing that on to their own new family.

Currently, while I do have some partial work done on multiple stories that I write, I don't have anything that is ready to call it a chapter. There are a couple that I want to wrap up the current books on before I start Memories Book Four, and a couple that I've decided can run alongside it. Brotherhood of Love is probably going to run as a companion to Memories Four, while CSV-DSM needs to close Book 2 and prepare for a Book 3 that will tie it in better with other resources in the Midwest region. there's a lot to juggle, but it is falling together in a way that makes sense in the long run.

Keep your eyes open, because there will be more coming!

Also, I did manage to write a submission for the current writing challenge, and yes, I did the one that covers ALL topics! Call Antonio for temporal tranquilizers once you've read it!

The long, long-awaited Fall Short Story Event has arrived and it is a humdinger of an event. There are more choices of what to write than you can shake a stick at. This event starts today and ends at Midnight PST on Saturday, November 18th, 2023.

This event's themes are as follows: Thanksgiving At Denny's® Again!, Thanksgiving With The Brother I Never Knew I Had, Thanksgiving on the Planet Denny's®, and last but not least Thanksgiving On A Spaceship Marooned In Space.

For the completely fearless authors out there ACFan has issued a challenge to all entrants and the challenge is this, join him in writing a Short Story to this Theme: Thanksgiving at Denny's® again on a Spaceship Marooned In Space With the Brother I never knew I had, that I found on the Planet Denny's®.

The Guidelines are straightforward as usual:

1. Stories should be between 500 and 15,000 words, give or take a million words.
2. All Submissions should have the author's initials appended to the end of the Filename.
3. All submissions are due by Saturday, November 18th at Midnight PST.

I have just posted a revised and re-edited Chapter One of The Shadows of My Heart. I was never completely happy with that chapter as I thought it was missing some detail and was a little shy on information.  So, I went back re-edited it and fleshed out the storyline a little bit. I didn't change the way the story reads or its intent I just rounded it out a bit.

As some of you may know I am not a fan of revised stories as too many of those lose the feel and sometimes the warmth of the original story. I tried very hard not to do that in this revision. I hope you enjoy this chapter as much now as you did before.

Back in 2004, we had been contacted by a concerned author/reader regarding a free forum we were using that was laced with ads and crap to gather and talk to a small handful of fairly well-known authors of the time. The "community" was considered back then, some form of author support. LOL! That concerned author/reader purchased a parent domain and the software to build an internally supported forum to move the conversation to and gifted it to us. You see the name August Christopher come up for us, this is why. That was the official birth of what we now know as the Fort Family. We all came from small beginnings, the oldest of us were developed in a relatively young internet and needed to change with the times. Our forum is gone now but because of the interconnectivity of the modern internet, the forum became obsolete. So now we focus on hosting the sites that keep online authors' work available to the world. Are we alone in this task, heck no.

On September 9, Dude (IRL - Vale Mike Wengert) founder of the online community "AwesomeDude" that is as old as we are, passed away from a massive heart attack at the age of 79 years old. Just shy of his 80th birthday :(

All of our communities face issues that unless managed could knock us off the internet. This is why there are so few of the "Old Guard" (as ACFan put it to me earlier) left out there. The death of the founding member is bad, when that founding member was also the person managing all the bills and accounts, it is more than a speed bump, it's a mountain to overcome. When August Christopher passed, we were in danger of losing all that had been built so, we have seen that mountain, and feel for the AwesomeDude community.

If you have time, please reach out to them and offer them some positive energy and support. Not only are they facing a difficult battle but they are mourning the loss of a close friend. That mourning has to take a back seat when dealing with trying to save their creation and I can say from experience, that part sucks! Our community was only a year old when we dealt with this loss and fought to get our hands on the wheel of what felt like an out-of-control bus. Their community was established almost 20 years ago, around the same time our community became something we could also call a community. So it is more the size of a freight train compared to the bus we needed to learn how to drive.

Even though over the years all these "competing" communities had fences between themselves and others of its kind, I've always considered us in competition with no one. Just another group or gathering supporting independent authors and offering a hand to get them exposure. That's all any of these sites ever offered. Dude was one of those people who felt the same way, and his absence will be felt by us all.

It's true, after decades of some of the best stories on the web, Ted Louis has decided to close the book and really start to enjoy his retirement. To him we wish all the best and look forward to his future input. (I mean, you can take the web away from the man, but you can't take the man out of... It sounded better in my head O.o)

 At any rate, today is the official launch of "Ted Louis' Bookshelf", a completely community integrated site that will allow us to continue to make sure all of Ted's hard work is protected and available to us all for as long as we are able. It's taken quite a bit of time to build something worthy of all the talent it will now contain and protect. We hope everyone will enjoy and maybe even contact an author or two to let them know how much their work is loved and appreciated. Our way of doing that was to build this new home!

 Soon we will be reaching out to all the active authors on the site to give them the keys to their new home and make sure all the right boxes went into all the right rooms. Real or virtual, moving has its challenges. The end product was sooooo worth the effort.

 Special thanks to The Story Lover for the time and love he put into translating all the HTML into each and every story that you now have access to. He spent hours making sure everything was ready to go. Then passed it to me to make the site itself work, LOL!

 So, we say goodbye to the old tedlouis.com but everything we came here for is still here, just looking slightly different with a new coat of paint, some spit, and lots of polish!

Yup, you read that title right, we are attaching a brand new/old site to our Community Network and I personally think it's a bit of a big deal. As many of you may be aware, the online author 'Ted Louis' from tedlouis.com is hanging up his quill. He has given us decades of some of the most amazing stories ever read by so many of us. In retiring, his plan was to give warning so people could grab copies and then let the website simply retire itself. Now, not wanting to see that happen, we put a ton of work into creating a family site that was capable of maintaining a home for his works and those of his hosted authors and I'm happy to say, it's ready for the big unveiling.

Now for the catch, I need to adjust friendship links between any other sites already co-hosting Ted's work as it is coming from the temporary domain; and where we have already obtained the correct domain name, it needs to be adjusted and then wait until DNS servers recognize that change. It could happen instantly or it could take a couple of days. There's no way of telling. So, if you are here to read a story by Ted Louis or the story from an author that is hosted on his original site, you may want to go to tedlouis.com as there will always be a version of all this work on the source site or outgoing classic site while co-hossted copies may fail until the internet catches up with the change.

I'd say please welcome Ted to the family but, hosted by us or not, he's always been family to us and it is our honor to be able to make his retirement that much more pleasant.

Today I am very happy to announce someone who not only is willing to take the wheel but, if given the opportunity, someone I believe Lenny would have chosen himself as his successor.

Just as a reminder, this is being put together by myself (AC) and The Eggman as a tribute to D&B's visions, using the permissions given us at D's passing. Be sure to join us in paying tribute to an author who was taken from us too soon. May the work put in do the body of what he created justice.

As I'm sure all of you are aware, I've been bouncing around between stories to get everything up to the current spot in the timeline - which sometimes means jumping around to ensure continuity across the Universe is maintained.

When Dave of D&B passed on, B turned the characters and stories over to myself and TheEggman to allow the characters to be part of future storylines. Unfortunately, at that point in time they were in front of all of us! Before Dave passed, he did manage to merge two of his stories into a third one. Both Jigsaw and Be Careful What You Ask For run alongside each other, and were merged into Dawn's Early Light to cover the BOE storyline.

This has allowed a unique opportunity; in most cases, when an author passes, their storyline stalls. In this case, we've had the permission to continue the storyline, but needed things to be caught up to allow that to happen. Once we finally were satisfied that it was safe, the next part was deciding how to pull it off. While various plot points that had been planned were included in other CSU stories, to move forward the storylines from D&B really needed closure. After serious thought, and quite a few discussions, it was decided that the best way to honor what he was doing would be to write a multi-chapter Epilogue to Dawns Early Light, resolving some of the major storylines and preparing the characters to move forward in future CSU stories.

Over the next week, I plan to finalize a method to re-direct you to Dawns Early Light after the last chapters of both Jigsaw and Be Careful. The first chapter of the Epilogue is over 2/3 done, and will be posted as a continuation of Dawn's Early Light. Upon the conclusion of the Epilogue, all three stories are expected to be wrapped up and the characters poised to be able to be easily integrated into future CSU stories without major questions left hanging.

So, now that you've been warned, you'll have time to refresh your memory on all three stories, and will be ready to move forward with us as we once again get to see Jonas, Harry, Kurt's family, and other characters actively moving ahead!

I hope you enjoy it as much as we are writing it! This will be appearing on all Fort Family Sites which currently host D&B's stories!

It's happened; Life Renewed has reached the point where it ties into the Memories storyline, which nails down the timeline! Chapter 11 is now live, and it brings us to the point where the crew shows up in Memories 3, Chapter 43.

Don't worry, this isn't the end of Life Renewed; I have been told that the boys have a lot more story to tell! In this chapter, we get to watch as the first major steps are attempted by not only the boys, but also the adults, towards becoming a much-needed branch of the Clan family.

First off...a brand new chapter of "Safe Haven" was posted to the site, and it is ready for you guys to jump into whenever you get a chance! Now, for those who have never read this story or the others, this miniseries acts as one of the prequels to the apocalyptic series, "Shelter"! This would be the fourth book in that collection, each one giving you the backstory and experiences of "Shelter's" ensemble cast. The others ("Walker Road", "Rotting Apples", and "Miles To Go") all have different flavors to them and how they're told, with "Safe Haven" sort of being the big Summer blockbuster story of the bunch! So go ahead and grab them all to see the complete and total breakdown of society through a variety of different perspectives! And then watch all of them come together to fight for their survival together in the "upcoming "Shelter" books as well! There's a new chapter of Life Renewed!

Sorry about the bouncing around between stories, but I'm trying to get the timeline resynced! I just posted Chapter Ten of Life Renewed, which locks in the story to the timeline at the end of Memories Part Three. There's going to be at least one more chapter appearing fairly shortly, as I still need to get the story past the events of Memories 3, Chapter 46. Once that's done, then I can get back to CSV-DSM, and then the base is set to move forward. If everything goes well, another chapter of Brotherhood of Love will sneak in the mix somewhere soon too!

Thank you for being patient; 2022 was a real mess for finding writing time, I'm really hoping 2023 is better!

As many of you know, I've been extremely ill over the past two weeks, so my apologies if my presence online has been minimal at best. I'm so glad you decided to branch out from one of the community sites as they all have unique material, comprised of so many amazing authors. Hopefully you are following fortfamilyforums.com which is the hub for the entire network and lets you know what's new and what news is being shared by all. You may ask yourself why "fortfamilyforums.com" as it isn't a forum. The quick answer is, it used to be a forum, one that was originally set up and used for jeffsfort.com before it started to become a gathering place for authors and readers simply because it was something I wanted to do at the time; show appreciation for a few authors that I really admired. And over the years it grew to be larger than any of us could have ever imagined. So the short answer to your concerned email is I didn't steal "JeffsFort" from the community, the community stole my site's name and grew large enough to cut my name off of it. Maybe if you are lucky enough, something just as special will steal your name and give you just as much joy as "The Fort Family" has given me over the years.

On the writing front, my muse has gone on a long vacation with no way to contact it. I have lots of ideas and scenes floating around in my head. However, I can't get them onto my computer screen or notebook from my brain. I am not giving up on writing; I will keep plugging away at it. Strange News: I just finished and posted a snarky piece of prose that will hopefully bring a smile to your face. Oh, what a wonderful day!

While 2022 was filled with trials and tribulations for all of us, somehow, we persevered and made it this far. On the personal front, 2022 wasn't good for my health or my mental well-being. We lost another cherished member of our Shack family this past weekend. Unfortunately, our friend 'ATrueFan passed away just a day or two ago, and he will be greatly missed by us all. I have some very sad news. Our friend and fellow writer, True Fan passed away last night. His husband called me, but was too upset to talk, so he had the nurse speak to me. Apparently, his heart stopped around 8ish, and after performing CPR for 30 minutes, there was still no response. We will miss him, but we find joy in knowing he's not feeling any more pain or suffering. The nurse did say that when he died, he didn't suffer; it was quick.

I don't know what this means for Voyagers, Douglas DD and I will have to discuss it. Whatever we do, I hope we honor True Fan. Next chapter will be delayed as we are dealing with our grief.

While this does not affect the other CSU authors, I was given the chance to purchase the house that I had been renting but moved out of last year, and I took advatage of it! 

Closing on it is about to happen, so I'll be spending a little time moving HQ to its permanent home. That will slightly delay the next chapters that I'm working on, so don't panic!

Just to keep you in the loop, this is where things stand. Life Renewed is in the queue to be brought to current time, Brotherhood of Love is awaiting a few things I need to have happen in Des Moines, CSV-DSM has a few things that still need to happen to support events in other stories either already written or pending, and Memories book 4 is waiting for DJ and Tanner to get control over their new life. (There might be a Mikyvis Chron or two as well; I never plan those, the kids spring them on me without warning!)

So, there were a bunch of little 'glitches in the matrix' that I've been doing my best to fix this week, and I am almost done with about ninety percent of them! These are little things that are seriously hurting the site and my ability to keep things running somewhat smoothly moving forward. So I'm trying to fix them ALL, if possible! And I'm not a computer wiz, by any means...so thanks for being patient with me the past few days.

Basically...many of the programs that I use regularly have changed, or been updated, or have added a ton of new options that I never ever EVER use and don't need...but thanks for fucking up the stuff that was just fine before you started messing with it. Thanks. I appreciate. Grrr!

Anyway, I'm working on that and have fixed a bunch of errors that were in the way. Oh! As some of you may have noticed, we have been experiencing intermittent outages with a small handful of our story siites as recently as earlier today. These outages are a result of a service that we utilize being hacked, which is affecting some functionality of the sites and triggering malware scanners within our service. It is being addressed but as with any attack of this nature, we can't offer a timeframe of when we are "in the clear" as we are simply reacting when trouble pops up as software needs to be developed to address this new issue moving forward.

For now, be sure you keep copies of everything that is newly posted on your site as an attack could force a site to restore from a recent backup, which 'could' reverse the addition of new material. Be on the lookout for emails claiming that your email address, domain name, or even your hosting service have been compromised, are in need of being renewed, or are in the process of being discontinued unless you respond. These are phishing attempts designed to trick you into responding to their request and in the process doing one of two things. One: tricking you into exposing personal information that can be exploited and Two: verifying that you are a live contact that can possibly be further exploited in the future.

These attempts have become more persistent in the last couple of years and from what I am reading, people are falling for it and clicking on those enclosed links or providing credentials when trying to log in to these fake sites, handing these people the ability to hijack your site or email. It happens far too often.

Be sure to flag these emails as spam, if we are providing your hosting let us know when you receive them so we can follow up, and if they claim to represent a real organization like Google, Yahoo, or even DSS Hosting, be sure to let that organization know what happened and be sure to forward a copy of the email in question.

If you ever believe your credentials could have been compromised, log in to your site/cPanel and change your password as soon as humanly possible. The sooner you act, the more likely you are to be able to prevent losing all your hard work or even more personal information. If you need assistance in securing your website, our clients can go to https://dsshosting.net/request-support/ and fill out a request form. This will notify our staff and get you the quickest possible response. Other service providers have similar steps to gain assistance so be sure to check their main website for information.

"Jesus, Comsie!" It takes him forever to do anything! Where's *MY* favorite story! He takes so long! I forgot about this! I have to start all over! Too long between chapters! It's been (Wastes time doing the calculations) THIS long since the last chapter! Arrrrghhhh!!!

Yeah, I get it. So now that we've gotten past that, let's approach the positives! Hehehe!

This was a story that I really did believe in and wanted to continue for a long time now, with a ton of high school gay teen romance, with a sci fi flavor, and a touch of horror thrown in for good measure! Hehehe! "SKYLIGHT" is my big disaster blockbuster story, and I challenged myself to do a lot of different things with this series that I had never done before. First of all, it's the biggest ensemble cast that I've ever worked with before (Or since, I believe). Also, it's written in the third person, which was definitely necessary for what I had planned for the story as a whole. Also, I tried to do something really new with transitioning from one group of characters to another, flawlessly, where every interaction felt as though it was somehow connected to everything else that was going on. So I was having a lot of fun with this series, despite the difficulty of being in a new space that I hadn't really been in before as a writer. I appreciated the obstacles being thrown in my path and just tried to push forward as best as I could. If you guys get a chance to respond, let me know how I did! I'd love to know! :P

That being said, the story involves a major celestial event that happens when a rather large comet nearly misses the Earth by a few million miles and is expected to pass over without much more than a bright show of colors and the awe of everyone who comes out to see it pass over. And then...something goes terribly wrong! Read more to find out what! And where this group of very different high school students are headed to next as they deal with some of the biggest threats that they've ever been a witness too! Enjoy!

I've been seriously out of commission for the past week or so, and I'm still kinda reeling from it. Sometimes...life will completely blindside you with something that you truly feel in your heart of hearts...will be too much for you to handle. And it hurts. It really does. But...as Rocky said, "Its not about how hard you hit...it's about how hard you can GET hit, and keep moving forward! How much you can take, and keep moving forward! Because that's how WINNING is done!" And yes, there will be times when I have to cry it out and storm off stage for a short while...but I refuse to just disappear on you guys. K? I'm going to keep pushing for as long as I possibly can. I guess, I just needed you all to know that.

Before Rafe could back away, both he and Dodger had received sloppy kisses from Beau.

Rafe couldn't resist the urge and gave Beau a firm kiss on the cheek before standing to leave.

"Let me know if you think of anything else we can do to improve his chances... anything." Dodger reiterated firmly.

"I will. I promise." Rafe assured him before walking with purpose back to the stairs.

DJ and his family are finally starting to settle in; just spending the day relaxing. When a call comes in, Finn steps up to the plate, leading a select group of his family members on a mission to invade a reprogramming camp owned by one of the former executives of Zorro Communications. Will he follow in his new family's footsteps? Chapter Ten answers this and a few more questions!

As many of you may be unaware, on Thursday evening our service provider was one of many who experienced a complete outage that took our entire community down for a short period of time. I won't go into any details but we are not complaining about the speed in which this issue was addressed. The reason for this post is to request that any major site updates or important chapter postings should be postponed to allow for temporary fixes to receive permanent repairs. Where the work continues, I would consider all of our sites "Read Only" for a day or two. I will attempt a current backup as a "Just Incase" but, if we experience DNS issues resulting from the outage, new work could be lost.

As you guys know, my uncle passed away from cancer last week, and arrangements had to be made this past weekend. So my mother and I have to drive a few hours out of town for the ceremony. (I hate funerals. i really do. But I couldn't live with myself if I didn't go.)

I wasn't expecting my family to really be around this weekend, but I should have known better. Sorry...I'm such a Chicago boy! We make PLANS! You know? Like a week in advance! "Let's get together next week and do 'blah blah blah'! Whereas, around here with family, it's like, "I'm on my cell phone, I'll be there in ten minutes! Let's hang out!" Grrrrr! (GFD: King's Order @ SHACKOUTBACK.NET) The vampires that inhabit the world that I buit for the main story have been around for a very VERY long time! And they all have their own stories throughout many different eras in human history! This is an introduction to Celwyn's story from a more Medieval period in history! I'm about to post the first part of a two-part chapter for Brotherhood of Love! Between real life and certain characters who don't know when to slow down, the chapter became too long to post as one!

Within a few minutes, I'll be posting Brotherhood of Love Chapter 8A ... and I plan on posting 8B sometime tomorrow night.

What should you expect? Well, DJ, Tanner, and Chek are trying to regain control of the sudden changes in their lives... which could possibly happen if their sons let them! Fortunately, a few familiar faces from the other Orlando bases have noticed, and they are trying to assist in giving structure to Clan Wagner.

I have purposely picked a split point which doesn't leave you hanging, so as I verify everything in Part B is ready to post, you can read Parrt A without needing to break out pitchforks to make me hurry up!

*Random Cake Holiday* Emailed By Comicality!

That's right dammit! I said 'Random Cake Holiday'! Hehehe! Don't ask any questions, don't worry about the rhyme or reason WHY you should do it...just DO IT! We had a conversation in the chat tonight, and this lack of cake is just unforgivable. So today, Sunday, I want each and every single person reading this, to go out somewhere and find yourself a piece of cake to eat! I don't care HOW you get it, or WHAT kind of cake it is! But there are just way too many people who have gone TOO long without having a piece of cake!

You can laugh all you want! Feel silly doing it! I don't care! Whatever! Just go out, find some cake, and enjoy it for the simple fact that you CAN! And I'm not talking about some moldy old store bought sliver of cake that you can buy for a quarter at the counter of your local gas station! I mean actual *CAKE*! Go to a bakery, go to a neighbor's house, hit up the old lady that does volunteer work at the resource center in your area, bake your own and give half of it away to someone else who doesn't have cake, play your Cake cd on your car radio..whatever...but don't you DARE let the sun set without getting a taste of that sweet sweet cake goodness! C'mon...don't you want some CAKE??? I do!

The only time we get to have cake is at weddings, birthdays, Bar Mitzvahs, bachelor parties, and occassionally during some kinky sex fetish game with a stripper who doesn't mind getting covered in frosting. And that's just wrong! So if you needed a reason to eat cake, then here it is. It's cake day. GO! Get some! Enjoy it! Do it for the simple fact that you have absolutely NO reason to do it other than I told you so! Hehehe! Savor it! 

Shit....I'm going to get mine as soon as I get up tomorrow! Believe me! Mmmm cake...

I Had been having some serious issues with my Mac Pro for the two weeks preceding last weekend. I thought I had resolved those issues until last Saturday when my Mac Pro decide not boot up.

I had decided to purchase a new Mac Studio on credit, however, it wouldn't be delivered until the end of June :(

Luckily for me The Eggman has a similar Mac Pro that is just gathering dust. We are working on getting that Mac Pro shipped to me. Hopefully in a few weeks I will be back up and running.

I will probably still order a Mac Studio in the future when my credit usage has dropped a bit.

My iPad Pro is still working awesomely, I am using it for Internet Access and e-mail. Regarding e-mails, as usual I am very far behind. I am trying to get caught up. However, that is going to take a while.

Number two...I am currently finishing off the first few chapters of a brand new story for Imagine Magazine called "Weight In Gold", that will also be published on the site once a month. BUT, here's the thing...I'm trying to build a presence on Goodreads for my stories. Goodreads is a place where people read online novels and books and name their favorites or discuss them with other readers who share the same interests. I just haven't figured out how to do that just yet, and this is where you guys come in. It's that time again ... DJ and his family are once again proving that Cory was right when he decided that DJ and Tanner had earned their own Family within Family Clan Short. Hang on as we learn just how much attention our boys paid to the events in their family since their rescue back in Memories Part 1, and watch them put their knowledge to use.

Darrell started editing for me about the 3rd or 4th chapter of Another Chance in 2014. through the years, we've had our ups and downs, but remained friends though it. I suggested he look at a few different authors' works to see what he thought of them, or I suggested to the author that they have Darrell look at their work. Some he looked at and never commented to me about them, others, I know he started editing for them. True Fan, Douglas DD and Juju Author are just a few. He started editing for our Voyagers series as soon as we started writing it. He was already editing for True Fan and myself, so it made sense. That was also when Douglas DD got to know him.

Darrell was an awesome editor, and no offense to any other editors, but in my mind, he was the best. Many times we didn't agree on things. I felt his changes changed what I wanted to convey in my stories, and we butted heads, but worked together to come up with a solution that conveyed what I wanted AND made him happy.

When I wrote the series The Submariner, I relied heavily on Darrell. He was a former Navy man; he served during the Vietnam War. I got most of my information from him or the US Navy's web site.

When we were getting ready to find a missing ship in Voyagers, we didn't have a name yet, so I googled "Famous Heroes named Hooker." I wanted to honor Darrell with the ship. True Fan and Dougls DD were totally on board and thought it was a great idea. A General during the Civil War, Joseph "Fighting Joe" Hooker was at the top of the list. I asked Darrell if he was any relation to Joseph Hooker. Darrell responded quicker than he normally does with, "Let me tell you later a story about my relative who was a general during the Civil War." I knew right away, that was going to be the name of the ship.

The last time Darrell and I spoke was 11 March 2022. Less than a week later, I started writing emails, texting and calling him... to no avail. I shared my concern with True Fan, who started working hard to contact Darrell. On the 24th, I received a text from Darrell's phone. When I heard the ring tone, I had set up for him, I was like, "Finally!" But then I read the text, it was from a friend of Darrell's. He found Darrell in his chair, not moving and his eyes open the day before. My friend had passed away.

I will forever miss you DR Hooker.

Tonight, I'm giving you Chapter Five of Brotherhood of Love ... and the mall trip gets even more interesting! DJ and crew are on a roll, and the adults are trying to catch up to them. And I should warn you all ahead of time, this is one of the darkest spinoffs that I've written so far! Taking place in the mid 70's, it's probably one of my most psychologically disturbing stories, with the exception of "Darkness Waits"! So...buyer beware! >:)
